Purpose


Work with the Director of the Pre-Health Professions Program and the Assistant Dean for Diversity to develop, assess, and maintain new pipeline programs for elementary school, middle school, high school, and college students and scale up and maintain existing programs, such as the Health Sciences Summer Camp.

Essential Functions


Coordinate meetings with ISDs (AISD, PISD, Del Valle) leadership and schedule school visits to the Dell Medical School (DMS) for underrepresented in medicine (UIM) students from local elementary, middle, and high schools. College outreach: Coordinate meetings with HBCU leadership and schedule school visits to DMS for HBCU's including Huston-Tillotson, PVAMU, TSU and others. Coordinate efforts with colleges/university with large Hispanic/Latino student enrollment (UT San Antonio, UT RGV). Mentorship program development/coordination: Assist with developing, administering, and assessing mentorship programs for UIM students from UT Austin (currently have 60 Black and Latino student participants), St. Edwards, Huston-Tillotson and Austin Community College (ACC). This will also include developing, administering, and assessing surveys for undergrad UIM students about their high school preparation for Pre health professions study. Develop and coordinate a UT Austin and HT undergraduate student navigation program for UIM students to assist various departments at DMS and Dell Children's Hospital. Health Science Summer Camp Coordinator: Responsibilities include, Publicize the program and manage the application process for students in 8 different school districts. Serve as primary contact for all parents, students, counselors, staff, and presenters needing any information regarding the camps. Coordinate and schedule meetings with presenters, counselors, and other staff involved in the camps. Plan and organize the camp schedule (up to four camps per year). Work with the Youth Protection Program at UT Austin to ensure the camps follow all legal procedures and regulations. Work with the Communications Team to update camp merchandise and information. Work with the Development Team to ensure the camps are funded and donors are provided with data analysis and other required reports on each camp. Conduct surveys and analyze data on student knowledge, interests, and demographics. Work with Human Resources to get UT undergraduate students hired and properly trained for taking care of high school and middle school students. Communicate with past, present, and future students involved in the summer camp. Track their progress through high school and college as much as possible, to assess the program's long-term impact. Organize and manage yearlong program that follows the Health Science Summer Camps. Recruit and manage volunteers for Explore UT and other campus enrichment programs. Assist with the preparation, review, and submission of manuscripts, tables, figures, and references.

Required qualifications


Bachelor's degree and three years of experience with program coordination or management. Experience working with middle-school and high-school-age youth, or high school graduates. Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated excellent analytical skills, problem-solving ability and strong critical thinking skills. Ability to work efficiently and flexibly in a fast-paced environment with minimal guidance. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and respond to staff, tactfully, clearly, and concisely. Outstanding organizational and time-management skills. Professional demeanor with tact and respect at all times. Ability to address individuals and information with a high degree of sensitivity and confidentiality in various delicate, formal, or urgent situations. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications


Five years of clerical experience, including one year of experience at the Administrative Assistant level. Understanding of local conditions, community history, policies and systemic power differentials. Experience working directly with community members facing health inequities. Second language proficiency a plus (i.e Spanish or other).

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
