Job Summary JOB OVERVIEW The UCSF Psychiatry Bioinformatics Core (PsychCore) provides cloud-based pipelines for the analysis of large-scale genetic data from next-generation sequencing for use by the UCSF community. The applicant will help optimize existing pipelines and develop new pipelines in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud-computing environment. In addition, he/she will collaborate with research and clinical staff to run these pipelines on novel data and develop tools to help to interpret the results of these analyses. They will require extensive experience with systems operations and the ability to think creatively in applying these skills to the cloud environment. Dr. Stephan Sanders, MD PhD (http://sanderslab.ucsf.edu) is the Director of PsychCore. He has extensive experience in bioinformatics and genomic analysis, particularly gene discovery in Autism Spectrum Disorder. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated team of bioinformaticians including Programmer/Analysts and postdocs in the Sanders lab and collaborating labs. We are especially keen to hire an individual who is highly motivated and capable of both working in a team and independent problem solving. Required Qualifications BS degree in Computer Science/Biological Sciences, or equivalent Prior experience with data management, storage, transfer, analysis using security best practices Proficient at shell scripting on GNU/Linux platforms and producing original logic to support systems administration Proficient at multiple programming languages, for example, two of: Python, Java, Perl, Bash, Scala, JavaScript, Matlab, R, C/C++ Prior systems administration experience of remote UNIX/Linux systems Prior experience with parallelized/distributed computing on high-performance computing clusters and/or Cloud servers Prior experience in system operations (sysops) or developer operations (devops) Interested in learning about genetics and next generation sequencing Proven ability to work within a team to accomplish specific goals at specified times Demonstrates excellent attendance and professionalism Attention to detail Strong organizational skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to pick up new techniques quickly Outstanding job references NOTE: FINGERPRINTING AND BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIRED.
