The following opportunity exists in our South San Francisco, CA facility:Director, Inflammation Global Pipeline and Disease Strategy Inflammation Global Pipeline and Disease Strategy Job ID: 10291S outh San Francisco , CARESPONSIBILITIES:' Position Title: Director - Disease Area DirectorDepartment: Inflammation Global Pipeline and Disease Strategy ' GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY / PURPOSE::T he Director, Inflammation Global Pipeline and Disease Strategy has three key responsibilities: providing Commercial strategic direction to Early Development molecule teams within Pharma and/or Genentech Research and Early Development (pRED and gRED) and leading the strategy and activities of the associated Commercial subteams; Leading or actively contributing to the development of Disease Area and Portfolio Commercialization Strategies for the Business Unit; and providing Business recommendations on in-licensing or out-licensing opportunities in partnership with Pharma Partnering or gRED Business Development. The role on the Early Development Core Teams will include providing commercial inputs into the development of Lifecycle Plans (LCPs) and Target Product Profiles (TPPs) for each assigned molecule; leading the development of global business plans and revenue forecasts, and recommending commercial strategies. The Director will be expected to gather input from and provide strategic information to business partners within affiliate organizations, including the US, EU and emerging markets, to aid in the development of global product plans for pipeline molecules. The Director will work closely with multiple functional leaders, including Lifecycle Leaders, Project Team Leaders, International Business Leaders, US Marketing Directors, International Business Analysts, International Pricing Strategy Leads, Biomarker and Epidemiology Medical Leads, International Medical Affairs Leaders, and Development Team Leaders to ensure molecule development plans and Disease Strategies reflect business priorities, and will be responsible for executing appropriate activities in collaboration with functional partners to ensure that goals are achieved. The Director will develop the Business Case supporting Lifecycle Investment decisions, and will act as the interim International Business Leader as programs transition to Lifecycle Teams. The Director will provide Business input and strategic expertise to Research, Development, Pharma Partnering and gRED Business Development to optimize the potential future market value of new product opportunities. - Contribute significant leadership skills, business knowledge and negotiation abilities to the development of the business unit's overall pipeline strategy and goals- Develop and recommend positioning options and commercial valuation (for assigned molecules) for commercial success: -- Contribute significant leadership skills, business knowledge and negotiation abilities in identifying/creating innovative strategies and plans that will define successful market positioning at launch for assigned products. o Acts as commercial content expert for assigned disease areas. Provides strategic market and competitive intelligence insights to cross-functional project team members -- Assess and recommend commercial potential of assigned molecules; responsible for collaboration with business analytics to develop and recommend market assumptions and is accountable for recommending overall forecast to direct management and review committees -- As appropriate, expertly develop and implement all marketing pre-launch plans and activities -- Manage multiple external vendors to deliver projects on-time, on-target and on-budget- Responsible for development and execution of global business plans and tactics within approved budgets. Provide additional strategic and tactical inputs into various Roche and Genentech business planning and review processes, e.g. , Long-range plans, Lifecycle plans, Integrated Commercial and Development plans- Develop and present key commercialization plans and project strategic context for valuation assessment to senior management in Global Product Strategy, pRED and gRED and other appropriate groups. Collaborate with Business Analytics and Global Health Economics and Pricing to develop market and product assumptions to create or refine revenue forecast. Proposes changes based on key events or milestones. - Contribute commercial perspective into business processes and opportunities, and drive commercial assessment and recommendations for new molecular entities (NMEs), business development assessments for potential in-licensing, or other strategic partnerships. Effectively articulates and prioritizes future commercial needs in complex discussions within multiple teams including project (Core) team, CMC team and clinical strategy team. - Act, and is accountable for others in his/her team acting, in complete & total compliance with all laws, regulations and policies - Work collaboratively, effectively and efficiently with all internal and external partners and stakeholders. Includes acting effectively, where applicable, as Roche or Genentech Commercial lead for pipeline products co-developed with external partners - Support his/her manager in a variety of departmental leadership projects and endeavors, e.g. , training and development programs for departmental staff, new templates or other tools for departmental work, taking a leadership role in special projects, etc. - Participate, as and when needed/appropriate, in cross-functional or other project teams; helping the overall business of Genentech to continuously evolve, improve & excel - Develop business strategic options for the Business Unit in line with agreed upon goals e.g. attain or retain leadership in Therapeutic Area. - A key member of the Disease Area Strategy Team to develop strategic options and evaluate internal as well as external Disease Area specific projects in line with the strategic plan- Represent the business for Disease Area programs presented to the Research & Development Committee (DBA), Lifecycle Committee ( LSPC , ESPC ), Forecast Management Review (FMR)- Build, develop and lead the cross-functional team with the PD leader. Ensures the optimal blend of team members so that the team is functional from both a technical and interpersonal perspective. Negotiates to prevent or resolve team members priority conflicts- Support and, if needed, represent the respective project teams for business related issues at meetings (e. g, DBAPT , LCT, LSPC , ESPC , FMR)- Develop the Integrated Development and Commercialization Plans ( IDCP ) for molecules in preparation for Lifecycle 'Go' Decisions. - Serve as key communication and knowledge transfer link between the commercial team (early stage) and the Business Leaders/ Life Cycle Teams responsible for late stage development or marketed products. - Serve as interim Business Leader on pipeline products that have been sanctioned to move into Lifecycle Phase. Ensures there is seamless transition to the Business team within ' LCTQUALIFICATIONS ''' & ''' EXPERIENCE:''':''' - Bachelors Degree (Marketing, Business Management, or Science discipline is a plus) - MBA or other related graduate-level degree is preferred (Master's or Doctoral degree in a life sciences field is a plus)- 8 years or more previous experience in marketing, market research, competitive intelligence, business development, field sales management, or managed care in the pharmaceutical/biotech/or other related industry, with at least 3 years' previous experience in marketing - Previous experience in leading the development and implementation of brand/product strategy and vision required (e.g. Brand Director, International Business Leader, International Medical Affairs Leader, Project Team Leader)- Demonstrated understanding of Inflammation area- Demonstrated ability to lead development and execution of complex plans across multiple priorities- Previous field sales management experience is preferred - Previous people management experience is required- Must demonstrate some past experience with, and knowledge of, the drug development process (pre-clinical and Phase I - I); has worked on core team related project such as Line Extensions- Must demonstrate strong knowledge of product development, regulatory and clinical affairs - Must demonstrate previous experience in, and strong abilities for, establishing relationships with key opinion leaders and other relevant, external influencers - Must demonstrate strong knowledge of message development and clinical publications' planning - Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding financial and/or other quantitative targets, as well as qualitative goals - Previous experience in completing & implementing attainable business plans - Business travel, by air or car, is required for regular internal and external business meetings ' DIVISION:: Global Product Strategy (GPS) REQUISITION NUMBER:: 09-10291 Genentech is dedicated to fostering an environment that is inclusive and encourages diversity of thought, style, skills and perspective.
