bluebird bio, a pioneer in lentiviral vector-based gene therapies and cellular immunotherapies, is seeking a dynamic, versatile professional to join its growing Medical Affairs team. At bluebird we are committed to using cutting-edge science to make a real difference for patients with serious rare and genetic diseases. bluebird is conducting clinical studies with an autologous hematopoietic stem cell gene therapy, Lenti-D, for the treatment of cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy (CALD). CALD is a devastating rare neurodegenerative disorder that affects young boys, and gene therapy has the potential to offer a transformative new option to these boys. The Lenti-D clinical program is preparing for commercialization and the Manager, Scientific Communication, Lenti-D and pipeline will play a critical role in launch preparation and execution. Gene therapy is a ground-breaking field and Medical Affairs is central to commercialization efforts, with critical roles in education and care delivery. As a key member of the Scientific Communication and Medical Operations (SCMO) team, the Manager, Sci Comm will primarily contribute to the development and execution of a broad range of content for publications, training, medical information, field medical, and external educational programs for CALD. Additional responsibilities will include publication and medical education content and strategy development for pipeline products. About the role: Execute scientific communications and education deliverables for CALD and contribute to the development of the Medical Strategic Plan and Strategic Integrated Product Plan for Lenti-D and pipeline products, as needed Develop high-visibility scientific abstracts, slide decks, posters, presentations and manuscripts to share ground-breaking new clinical data and real-world evidence Liaise with clinical development, clinical operations, data management and statistics teams to gather data and plan publication development timelines Develop clinical and medical educational materials in CALD, including core slide decks, literature summaries and white papers Develop medical education materials to support ongoing disease awareness strategies Support content development for advisory boards, symposia, and non-CME educational efforts Participate in data analysis and communication planning for Lenti-D evidence generation Develop internal training and medical information materials such as strategic medical briefs, Q&As, and non-standard responses Update and maintain the CALD Scientific Platform Execute key tactics for medical congresses, including medical affairs booth educational content development, symposia planning, and vendor management About you: 2+ years in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical or medical research environment required Advanced degree in a relevant field required; PhD or PharmD preferred A combination of scientific publication and cross-functional scientific and medical communication experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills Exceptional writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy; experience in scientific writing and publication planning desirable Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to coordinate and lead multiple projects simultaneously Ability to critically appraise medical/scientific literature Ability to travel for scientific congress meetings as necessary (
