Pipeline Specialist tools

A Pipeline Specialist assists in managing pipeline employees and projects.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Maintains a safe operating environment;
  • Assists supervisor in managing contractors related to pipeline enhancement projects, relocations and new installations related to drilling activities;
  • Ensures TILs are completed in a timely manner;
  • Assists in managing capital projects associated with enhancement projects, compliance upgrades, and coal relocations;
  • Line Records:
  • Assists supervisor, GIS and Compliance with updating and correcting all mapping and schematics associated with pipeline coordinates and dimensions in assigned routes;
  • Completes all reports and filing for upgrades and relocations; and
  • Assists with enhancement of existing records and files associated with district pipelines to include GPS documentation per project.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting of pipeline system obstructions and restrictions and major preventative maintenance, including analyzing operations to make adjustments to daily operations to optimize throughput;
  • Provides technical and operational direction to lower-level pipeline operators;
  • Substitutes for supervisor as required; and
  • May perform duties in other job classifications as directed. Required Skills
  • Advanced computer and mechanical skills
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Advanced knowledge of excavation equipment and capabilities
  • Advanced knowledge of: Federal Regulations Parts 194 & 195, measurement facilities (EM, domestic, office), valve operations, regular rotations and fluid maintenance operations, pipeline operating systems, pipeline, well and compressor piping component design, and construction operations
  • Strong leadership ability
  • Strong working knowledge of basic pipeline equipment: gas trac, combustible gas indicator, pipeline locator; topographical maps and schematics and blueprint reading
  • Working knowledge of corrosion practices and principles and physical properties of gases

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least five years of pipeline operations, including strong knowledge of construction of facilities and pipeline systems
  • Valid drivers license (CDL license may be required depending upon location)
  • Associates degree in a technical discipline preferred
  • Leadership or supervisory experience preferred
