The group will support strategic portfolio discussions across the science units. The Head of S&P is accountable for leading the portfolio directors who are the interface between PS&M and the science units. You will work closely with peers in PS&M to align and integrate so as to drive efficient pipeline delivery. You will oversee integrated portfolio analyses across the science units that drive decision-making in line with portfolio goals. As a core member of the Pipeline Strategy and Management Leadership Team, you will play a key role providing focused and targeted portfolio analyses and recommendations that inform portfolio direction setting, decision-making and prioritisation of investments in line with short, medium and long term business goals to drive growth. Main Duties and Responsibilities Performance manages senior managers or identifies development opportunities of direct reports, together with planning effectively for succession Designing, establishing, recruiting, mentoring, and leading a highly effective team of portfolio directors Ensuring the best methodologies are in place to develop comprehensive project plans, deliver key project management milestones on time and within budget, identify and resolve project issues, and further refine project risk management plans. Working closely with the heads of Project Management across Therapy areas advising on portfolio-wide timelines, budgets, project management methodologies, process improvement, and related resources. Partnership with Finance to understand and steer budget discussions at portfolio level Engaging stakeholders across science units to ensure effective collaboration, project efficiencies and sharing of best practices. Leads or oversees a diverse range of initiatives to improve quality, compliance, cost or speed of projects across AZ and, where appropriate, leads the development of new methodologies or process to provide business benefit Oversee the evaluation, definition, implementation and evolution of key portfolio process across the science units. Instilling an organization-wide dedication to efficiency and operational excellence. Deliver portfolio data, insights & critical analyses and recommendations to drive portfolio growth Develop trade-off options and recommendations to manage capacity constraints In partnership with Investor Relations deliver clear and accurate portfolio reports to support external communications Oversee delivery of a full and integrated range of portfolio reports, analyses and communications that drive portfolio decision-making, target-setting and tracking of progress Lead business partners to manage governance committee, ensuring efficient and effective governance processes and decision-making is in line with portfolio goals Support the implementation of project management best practice and full leveraging of project & portfolio management systems Support and advise PLs as they prepare for governance ensuring adherence to business process and utilization of appropriate tools and templates Drive early stage project team interactions with late stage governance Integrate with PS&M Analytics & Reporting group to produce analyses that contextualize and support governance decision-making Oversee annual portfolio cohorts to support definition of global and R&D business unit scorecards Own the project Sustainability Model (SM) on behalf of LT, defining and maintaining a portfolio that is aligned to portfolio goals Essential Requirements BA/BS in science or engineering discipline or equivalent technical work experience Extensive experience in healthcare consulting or biopharma industry. Pipeline experience preferred Global experience preferred Leadership experience in the pharmaceutical industry Track record of delivery and raising performance and capability across a team Ability to influence broadly within and outside the organisation High level knowledge/awareness of the overall pharmaceutical product development process, including stages of development and role of different functional areas. Excellent communication, negotiation, collaboration and interpersonal skills Highly organized and able to work independently on multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Clear understanding of external business environment and business challenges Strong strategic thinking, decision making, and problem solving Leadership skills, including ability to influence without authority and collaboration Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills (written and verbal) required Proven teamwork ability, routinely facilitating the exchange of ideas Demonstrated ability to bring ideas to action Desirable Requirements Masters or higher degree Experience in a therapy area in which AZ late-stage development works: Immuno-Oncology, Oncology, Respiratory, Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease, Inflammations and Neuroscience Proven ability to lead change with a positive approach to the challenges of change for self and team If you are interested, apply now!
